Giving Offerings for the Lord’s Work
One aspect of our lives as God’s people is providing financial offerings to support the work of sharing the gospel in our church and school, as well as in our shared ministry as a high school conference and a synodical church body with our mission program. In God’s word we find the principles of “firstfruit” and “special gift” giving. Firstfruit offerings are the gifts we give “off the top” of our income as an expression of gratitude to our Lord. We encourage people to give a percentage of their income as a firstfruit gift in proportion to how they have been blessed. We will want to be as generous as our circumstances allow us to be. Special gifts are gifts “over and above” our regular firstfruit offerings for those who are able to also contribute in this way. Typically, special gifts are for building projects or area ministries not covered by regular budgets, or they may be gifts given on special occasions, such as for funeral memorials or anniversary thank offerings. While everyone who receives income is a firstfruit giver, that is not necessarily the case when it comes to special gifts. We ask that people pray and consider what, if anything, they may be able to do in connection with special gift opportunities.
Christ the Lord has established the option for online offerings. Contributions can be debited automatically from your checking or savings account (or processed using your credit or debit card). Giving online is easy and allows you to set up automatic recurring contributions and view your complete online giving history from anywhere you have access to the Internet. Making use of online giving allows you to write fewer checks throughout the year. In addition, when travel, illness or other circumstances prevent you from attending services, this program will allow your weekly offerings to continue on an uninterrupted basis.
Faith Family Future 2
Our congregation is currently in the second phase of our Faith Family Future capital campaign. Gifts to Faith Family Future 2 will allow us to continue to pay for our mortgage outside of our budget, and will enable us to expand our facilities to grow our Lutheran elementary school and early childhood ministries. Gifts to Faith Family Future 2 are examples of “special gift” giving, as referenced above, considered to be over and above regular first-fruit offerings.
You may use our online giving portal to make your gifts to the Faith Family Future 2 capital campaign, either as a one-time gift or on a recurring basis. If you have an existing pledge to Faith Family Future 2, your gifts made online will be applied to your pledge.
Contributions to the Endowment Fund allow the earnings of a gift to be used for ministry purposes while the principal of the gift remains intact for a period of years. Endowment Fund gifts provide an excellent way to fund ministry programs and projects that might not be able to be funded through the annual budget. While such gifts may be given at any time during a person’s life, they are often part of estate planning as designations in wills and trusts.
