Mission, Vision & Beliefs

Christ the Lord Lutheran Church & School of Brookfield, Wisconsin is a congregational family of believers united by a common faith in Jesus through the Word of God, to the glory of Christ alone.

Our Mission & Vision

Christ the Lord Lutheran Church & School exists to give joy-filled glory to God in our worship, our nurture and our service in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Our vision is to have each and every one of our members active in public worship, in ongoing Christian education, and in Christian witness and service, to the glory of God alone.

What We Believe

At Christ the Lord Evangelical Lutheran Church, our congregation is a family. Families come in all shapes and sizes, are made up of all kinds of people and value different things. To help you understand what we mean by family, here are a few words that describe us:

Christian…

Our family gathers to do everything to the glory of God. That’s a very high bar and, as sinners, it’s impossible to meet. By ourselves, we can’t do anything to make God happy. That’s why we’re Christian. God’s Son, Jesus Christ, lived and died for sinners so that we can glorify God. Every person who trusts in Jesus Christ receives forgiveness of sins, the promise of salvation and the ability to live to God’s glory every day.

Evangelical…

Our family is filled with an “evangelical” spirit. The word “evangelical” really means gospel-preaching. The gospel is the good news that God loved the world in Jesus Christ. Through Jesus’ work, God offers forgiveness and salvation to everyone as free gifts. This good news is what our family loves to hear. We strive to make it part of everything we do because through this gospel alone, God promises to strengthen our faith and our ability to live to his glory.

Biblical…

Our family grows and lives according to the Bible. We believe that every word of the Bible is God’s Word. Rather than approaching the Bible with a predetermined idea of what it says, we let the Bible speak for itself. When we do this, God shows us what he has done for us in Christ, who we are as a family of faith, and what we are to believe and do to his glory.

Lutheran…

Our family gathers under a specific name. Martin Luther was a Roman Catholic monk who reclaimed the truth of the gospel for the church. Luther would say the family of God glorifies God only when it understands that it has salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, on the basis of Scripture alone.

Confessional…

Our family confesses what the Bible teaches and rejects what the Bible does not teach. The teachings that Lutherans confess on the basis of God’s Word are summarized in the Book of Concord of 1580. This collection of nine documents includes statements of faith that unite us with all Christians. These statements summarize what Lutherans specifically believe.

Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS)…

Our congregational family is part of a larger family, a church body known as WELS. It is the third largest Lutheran church body in America. Click here for more information about the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.
